“The Lomitas Community is committed to creating a SPOT On learning environment where all members are Self Managers, Problem Solvers, Optimistic, and TeRRiFiC.”

January 9, 2018

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to 2018!  We have had a great first half of the year and we’re looking to finish the 2nd half strong.  Our staff has been focusing on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) this year and weaving into our instructional environment.  SEL is designed to support students in building resiliency skills by teaching them how to handle typical life stressors and difficult, but common, social situations in a positive manner.

We teach our students that SPOT-On behavior helps them to be successful in school and in life:

  • Self Manager
  • Problem Solver
  • Optimistic
  • TeRRiFiC

We are focusing on building a safe environment for students to learn.  In January 2018, we will be working with students to correlate how our school is a Community where all staff and students understand that we each have a responsibility to make our community a safe and positive place.

Communities are safe places where members have the right to interact with others in a respectful manner!

In order to support our Lomitas Community, staff will integrate Social Emotional Learning skills throughout our curriculum in order to support students in successfully managing their own behavior and to be able to be an effective problem solver.  Teachers will conduct class meetings daily to increase SPOT-On behavior.  When a community member violates the Lomitas Community norms, then appropriate action will be taken and that community member will also be given a set of strategies to make SPOT-On choices in future situations.

Thank you for your support!

We look forward to a great year!

Sincerely,

Dr. Kenisha Williams, Principal
